When I visited Charlerois, a former industrial hub in the South of Belgium, I was awed. There is something captivating about the factories there, often constructed to endure but yet frequently rendered obsolete by the passage of time.
hese buildings, which once drew people in to work within their walls, played a significant role in the development of entire cities. Conversely, they sometimes contributed to their decline when economic and social structures shifted leaving these buildings abandoned. In many cases, nature started to reclaim these man-made objects, echoing the hopeful thought that nature will always relapse.
This collection is born from that inspiration, exploring the paradigm between the man-made and industrialism, nature and technique, timelessness and the passage of time. The vases embody this juxtaposition of strength and decay. Their minimalist design draws on the stark, utilitarian aesthetic of old factories, while their functionality as vases breathes new life into the industrial materials from which they are made. Each vase is handmade, reflecting the individuality of the factories that inspired them. The rough textures and raw finishes highlight the beauty in imperfection and the passage of time, hopefully evoking a sense of history and transformation.
Each piece in this collection is designed and handcrafted in Utrecht, The Netherlands and is part of a numbered series and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
